Kiddie Ziggy
Sunday (Aug. 16), 11:30am-12:30pm, Maui Prince Hotel, Wailea
Packing a lineup of community benefit events into the days prior to his Hawaii shows, Ziggy Marley proves his message of love and positive vibes is more than mere lip-service. In an interview with Ziggy last week, he told me his favorite thing to do while here in the islands is simply "nothing," but his schedule tells a different tale. Saturday, in Honolulu, he'll host a free children's concert at the Hawaii Children's Discovery Center, where he will be honored by students, and later will donate a Tuff Gong jacket to the Hard Rock Cafe memorabilia collection, as well as sign two guitars for a silent auction to benefit breast cancer research. Midday Sunday, on Maui, our local keiki score with a special concert geared for kids age 3-12 (and their caregivers). The show will feature tracks off his 2009 release, Family Time. Gamekids will also perform and the Pacific Whale Foundation will host informative activity booths. Space is limited, so it'd be smart to purchase tickets in advance. Proceeds benefit the PWF's "No Child Left Indoors" program, which helps Maui kids attend fun, eco-educational field trips, regardless of their ability to pay. For tickets call 249-8811 or purchase online at pacificwhale.org. 11:30am-12:30pm. $8 adults/$5 keiki/Kids under 2 free.
