Last week's feature about The Throwdowns inspired a lot of feedback. Here's a sampling:

I attended The Throwdowns' CD release party knowing nothing about the band and I was completely blown away. Erin is like a Hayley Williams/Gwen Stefani type with a more interesting voice and more of an indie-rock cool. The other three band members are hugely entertaining, and all of them have a great rapport with each other onstage. I haven't been able to stop listening to the album all day.

I was at the show last night and it was a great turnout. Today, I listened to the CD and was waiting for the "wow" factor. It never came for me. Although each song has a distinct sound, it still all sounds like something I've heard somewhere else—and not on Maui. One last thought: I would have to say that Erin needs a vocal coach to help carry some key notes of certain areas of her music. They are rough, but with time and practice, who knows?

The Throwdowns? More like The Throwups! Not impressed at all. They really have nothing new to offer, and what they do offer has been done better.

Erin, Ian, Kimo and Ola live in a beautiful place, creating and being able to make a living out of their creations. Of course there will be haters, but that just comes with any sort of art and make success and happiness that much sweeter. And success doesn't have to include multi-platinum records or selling out arenas, though it's certainly fun trying, isn't it? Go, Throwdowns, go! I love you guys!

THIS JUST IN: JOURNALISTS ARE BAD AT MATH
Re last week's Coconut Wireless: Isn't 1,700 equal to 0.000000019 percent of 894,736,842,105? Do you mean there are almost 897 billion recipients of stimulus checks?

Poindexter McBoffin, posted at mauitime.com

Editor's Note: Oops. Let's try that again. According to the FOX News story in question, of the 52 million stimulus checks that were sent, 1,700 mistakenly went to incarcerated individuals. By our (revised) calculations, that number represents 0.00327 percent of the total checks. So, to restate—FOX News: They Make Insignificant Things (That Are More Significant Than Our Poor Number Crunching Initially Led Us to Conclude But Still Pretty Damn Insignificant) Seem Important to Forward a Blatantly Partisan Agenda, You Decide.

And my posting about how a NYT writer flubbed her facts in News of the Weird wasn't even worth a nod?

Your about as worse as that writer with your misrepresented facts.

they could just put a naked chick on the cover every week. that would probably get even MORE people to read. because what most people want is always the best thing right? that's why the number one movie in america is also always the best movie, right? and why american idol is the number one rated show, right.

    The Endless Debate

Can't wait for the new tunes from by band get reviewed. Here's a prediction of the comments. "Sell-out, copy-cat, under-produced, over-produced, can't sing, soulful voice, great harmonies, terrible harmonies, boring, honest, desperate, too good for Hawaii, not good enough to get out of the bar scene, original, repetitive, too short, too long, not catchy, too poppy, out-of-date, ahead of their time, island garbage, rock garbage etc."

    Stay Tuned.

You're an idiot, you honestly think that many people will give a review to this album? You'd be lucky to get 5 reviews let alone all that you wrote.Wishful thinking is good though.
