Count the Cliches

in the quote below*

December 31, 2009
"Working together with a collective sense of responsibility, we will make the hard decisions and take the necessary path to steer Hawaii through this critical period toward a brighter future, and ensure our state remains a global leader in the 21st century."

- From Gov. Lingle's December 24 radio address

* We counted eight. Can you spot them all? Find some we missed? Also, for extra credit: What, exactly, is she talking about?

Raises hand and shouts, "Ooh, pick me!"
    December 31, 2009 | 12:20 PM

Gov. Lingle, in her December 24 radio address "Budget Message," talks about how canned filler is an easy timesaver during the busy holiday season.

Opening with, "This week, I submitted a budget to the Legislature that closes a projected $1.2 billion shortfall,” Lingle also gives listeners a healthy, belt-cinching reminder of our impending resolutions, as the New Year dawns.

Speaking of which, Lingle's Dec 30 online posting (http://hawaii.gov) of her Dec 31 radio address “New Year’s Message"* reads, “Working together with a collective sense of responsibility, we will achieve a promising future for our neighbors and students, transform our economy and ensure our state remains a global leader for the 21st century.”

This timesaver is also time-tested, as this tip was employed last holiday. In Lingle’s January 8 radio address “New Year, New Opportunities for Collaboration,” (oddly, her Jan 1 message “Budget and Financial Plan” does not provide any holiday well wishes) she says, “Working together with a collective sense of responsibility, we will achieve a brighter future for all, strengthen and transform our economy and ensure our state remains a global leader for the next 50 years.”

See, canned preservatives ARE good for you and--in as little as a year's time--can extend your life expectancy from a half to whole century!

    * However, Professor Spin, I think someone takes notice of your work! You, in fact, may be giving holiday tips of your own: Lingle's future-foretelling Dec 30 online post was quickly removed, the addendum titled, "December 24-31, 2009 - Governor's Weekly Radio Address – Budget Message." It no longer includes the paragraph quoted above...
