This could be an eff you to the two clueless yuppy golfers who felt entitled to whack their little white balls into the water at the Lanai ferry dock, giggling like idiots as their clubs shot sparks in the air. But instead I'll make it a shout-out to our Councilman from Lanai, who stepped up and asked them the question on everyone's mind, "What gives you the right to do that?" Of course they had no answer but tried to argue anyway. The point, though, is that they quit their thoughtless behavior, and maybe, just maybe, in the backs of their narrow minds realized they were being jackasses. Or not. Either way, thanks for standing up for the place you serve (whether you live there full-time or not).

Is this a rant against shagging balls into the drink? Or maybe damaging the dock with their titanium clubs? Maybe it is a rant about pollution damage to the reef with their white dimpled orbs. Or maybe the author has something against giggling like idiots? Pono?? Nope, this is the next to the most confused Eh Brah ever.

If it was a rant against pollution via non-biodegradable golf balls, they do make golf balls that can degrade in water.

Ew, I don't like this Eh brah either. I see locals whanging their balls into the ocean at Waiehu all the time, and no one raising an eyebrow. Someone of authority, tell us if this is destructive, because I've seen worse.

Uh, do you really not know?

Waiehu ball whanging is actually a highly specialized scientific study being conducted so as to track ocean currents and marine debris. As an added bonus, when happening upon said whang chunged, no one can help but feel the humanistic thrill of finding our superiorly synthesized makings washed upon the shore. Suck it, seashells!

    Spark up, Sol
    January 27, 2010 | 08:15 PM

Yes, it is very unclear whether Sol was being righteous, or just a dominating alpha-dog a-hole.

Since it was so unclear whether he had a legitimate beef, and what that might have been, or whether he was just attacking an easy target (trying to distract from his ambiguous legal status as an elected official?), maybe he should have "consider the task, and ask; if in doubt, don't."

Maybe he should have just sparked up, and lived and let live. Maybe this is the maturity we need in government. Somebody buy Sol a bong, before he goes storming up and down Front Street having hissy fits.
