"Just imagine the impact Christians could have on the direction of our government, the character of its leadership and the moral health of our nation if we all simply applied biblical principles to every aspect of our lives…" - From "Vote Your Values" a guide for pastors and church groups linked to at hawaiifamilyforum.org
To help Christians follow that advice to the fullest, here are a few "biblical principles" not mentioned in the guide:
"Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard." - Leviticus 19:27
"And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they…" - Leviticus 20:14
"If there is found in your midst, in any of your towns…a man or a woman who…has gone and served other gods and worshiped them…then you shall bring out that man or that woman who has done this evil deed to your gates…and you shall stone them to death…" - Deuteronomy 17:2-7
Thanks Jacob for the quick article on "Biblical Principles". I'm sure I'll be spending plenty of time this week reading the comments on this one. There are plenty of resources on the web for other Biblical contradictions, atrocities, mistranslations etc.
My favorite one lately is the fact that the Bible in it's original language (not english), made no mention of Homosexuality. The passages pastors and sheep refer to are mistranslated from the original terms. These terms were rape, beastiality, incest and ritualistic temple sex. Ritual Temple Sex was referring to the sins of the Sodomites (which incidentally did not refer the common definition of sodomy or homosexuality). Somehow, our wonderful priest and pastors in modern times don't bother to look up what the original language of the Bible meant and just preach anti-homosexual propaganda.
What a Wonderful World

Can we stone the Christians that don't follow gods law?? Can we? Can we?
for the embarassing and hurtful things "Christ's followers" have done to society and individuals around the world and throughout history out of, what they perceive to be, "love." Many of them have a LOT of growing and learning to do. The most important thing they need to learn is how to truly love their God and their neighbors, and that's including myself. Agape is challenging, as we are all by nature selfish beings. Spiritual discipline is challenging, as we all like to indulge carnal desires. Faith is challenging, as we all like to see it to believe it. Humility is challenging, as we all like to think we are right. Tradition is comfortable and to alter it requires change. A lot of people are afraid of change because it's uncomfortable. Most Christians are too comfortable. Jesus, as a baby, scared the shit out of King Herod, SO much so that he ordered a genocide of all the baby males in his "territory." Jesus, a crying, pooping baby, and rumored "king".. There's a lot to learn about this man that loved us to the point of excruciating death and about the father that sacrificed him.. for us. ..and the comforting Spirit that dwells among us to heal us. As a Christian lesbian, I know that I don't know everything.. and, i'm okay with that. We're never to stop digging, searching, and gaining understanding and wisdom. We are not meant to be ruled by fear. We are not meant to be so independent, but rather interdependent on one another. The truth is out there to be discovered.. in all of us.
The principle and teachings of Christianity aren't the problem, they are great rules and guides for moral living. The problem with Christianity are the certain pastors, reverends and followers that preach hate, intolerance, anti-science, things that aren't in the Bible etc.
Examples of behaviors and concepts taught and preached to Christians that are not in the Bible or just plain wrong: abortion is murder, intolerance towards homosexuals, not-smoking/drinking, not having tattoos, not having long hair, sex before marriage, divorce is a sin, cursing is a sin, watching porn is a sin, this is a "Christian Nation", the earth is 4000yrs old, dinosaurs were put here to test your faith, a heaven or hell as described in the Bible actually exists, the End Time/Apocalypse is now and didn't refer to the Roman Rulers at the time, you need to worship in Church, watching certain movies or listening to certain music is against God's wishes etc. It goes on and on.
Of course not all Christians believe and teach these things. What the good Christian should do is SPEAK OUT AGAINST THOSE THAT TEACH THESE INTOLERANT THINGS IN JESUS's NAME. You have a Bible right? Look up the main tenants of behavior you are being taught in the name of Jesus and then try to find them in the Bible. Believe it or not, your Pastor would mislead you too, not just Satan.
This was a rant not against Christianity, but rather a rant against the extra-curricular B.S. you are being taught to think is "Christian". It's not "Christian", it's social control and slavery imposed upon to you to retain you as members and grow the size of the church.
