In 1995, this famed, opera-length hula drama single handedly changed hula's onstage presentation. What is "Holo Mai Pele"? Correct, for $600. Okay, Alex, I'll continue with the category "Must See This Weekend," for $800. The Hawaii Island dance group presenting the long-awaited sequel, Hi'iaka: Ka Wahinepo'aimoku, at the MACC, January 30. Who is Halau O Kekuhi? Correct! Hmm… Let's go back and finish up "Scorched Lovers," for $1,000. Lover of Hawaiian fire goddess Pelehonuamea, the chief of Ha'ena, Kauai, who was fetched-for in a journey quest by Pele's favored sister, Hi'iakaikapoliopele. Who is Lohi'au? Again, correct. Alright. Back to "Must See This Weekend," for $1,000. (crazy laser sound) Ah, the Weekend Double! Hailed as a modern day Pied Piper, the New York Times called him "a pianistic firebrand." Who is Alpin Hong? Yes! (flips channel to SyFy) Overdub: "…delve into the subconscious realm of Kapo'ulakina'u from the island of Maui, and defer to the forest goddesses Ko'iahi, Mailelauli'i and Kaiona of the Wai'anae mountain range…" (flips channel to Spike) Commentator: "… he's a gamer, skateboarder, snowboarder, martial artist—and what? A Julliard-trained musician?" (turns off the TV, and spends the weekend at the MACC) Hi'iaka: Ka Waihinepo'aimoku: January 30, 7:30pm, $6-$40. Alpin Hong: January 31, 5pm, $6-$32. 242-7469 or www.mauiarts.org
