EhBRah_stinkpotboat

February 03, 2010 | 12:35 PM
I was surfing with a friend and several others at Ukumehame Beach, enjoying a rare out-of-season south swell in the fresh air and sunshine. That is until you showed up right in the break in your motorboat (white hull with turquoise tarp in the rear) and idled your engine for what seemed like an eternity. I asked you to move away as the noise of the motor was disturbing and the diesel fumes were asphyxiating everyone. (My friend started feeling ill and had to stop surfing because of the fumes.) Instead of moving, you insulted me and stated that you had been there for three days and no one else had complained. You told me to "shut up" and other unmentionable comments. Thanks for spoiling an otherwise spectacular day.

It's a free ocean brah! I can use my boat anywhere I want. Stop crying about your friend who was ill. He was probably sick of you constantly complaining about life. Next time, try paddling up to my boat, I'll let you board, and we can then take care of any problems you have.

    Respect
    February 04, 2010 | 09:43 PM

    Respect goes both ways.

When some asshole pulls up in his fuming boat, you can expect nearby people to get annoyed and upset. Its called common courtesy and we all know that since Hawaiians claimed to be here first, that they own it all and everyone else can go screw. The rules are different now. You live on Earth, not just in Hawaii. They're not "your" islands anymore... not since Kam III gambled and sold it all away to the missionaries and other haoles. That is where your beef really lies, in the Monarchy that sold Hawaii out from under itself.

We also know the Hawaiians were extremely violent and performed such punishments as cutting off tongues for eating bananas as well as rituals to consecrate heiaus with babies buried alive in each corner. If I'm wrong, someone PLEASE correct me. Hell, Hawaiians couldn't even get along with each other. It took Captain Cook's guns used by Kam III to "unite" (read: bash everyone else into submission) the islands.

Eh, boat fumer! You no take care of your boat just like you no take care da aina. You pollute the air with your boat in disrepair. I'll bet you still use gill nets and spear the Humu too.

    Aloooo-ha!

Haole go back mainland! Really? Is that all you guys got? Yeh, that'll fix it all, won't it? Same people posting, Biggie, anonymous, tsunami, always the same ol that we can expect from you. What a sad life you have if this is all you ever say or have to do. Get over it already, white man is here to stay whether you like it or not. Oh well, once a racist, always a racist, I guess we'll never change you.

What post did I ever make telling ANYONE to go ANYWHERE? You obviously are needing a spanking, that is what I sometimes recommend, not slaps. Long time you no get spanked, eh? For the record I am not Hawai'ian, but I do empathize with many of their issues, which has involved a LOT of research. I am not one to knee jerk, and I support many causes, especially education. These islands were made by the Creator for anyone who can move here and GET ALONG WITH EACH OTHER, which is part of the "aloha spirit". Because of past injustices (some of which, believe it or not were perpetuated by past moi and ali'i) some have a bitter viewpoint that many times can be overcome. But just like the world in general, if we strive for something better, it may come, I'm just happy to live in a place like Maui, and I'm also stoked to be in a country where I can offer a reBUTTal to Johnny Negs...

    Immature
    February 05, 2010 | 11:52 PM

The boater's behavior was about as mature as an 11 year old making faces behind his teacher's back. So "pono" means going out of your way to inconvenience others, and laughing at them, does it? Wow. very immature. Very Hawaiian. I think the kanaka race as a whole has a lot of growing up to do.

Seriously- why do you have to hang around where people are enjoying the peace and sounds of nature? Like being seen? Try being harmonious sometime- you will probably like it.

    Kam I united the islands.

as a side note, i love how haoles try to use pidgin... don't try. it just makes you look haole and stupid, no local would ever mistake your pidgin for authentic. unless you're being condescending, then by all means.

It Could have been so different
    February 11, 2010 | 07:36 AM

How much respect do you think the Japanese would have given Hawaiians at all if they were successful in their imperial campaign.

Be glad you're not speaking Japanese and can actually practice your culture. Hawaii would not have been left alone for long if the US didn't have control of it. In WWII, it was far too much of a strategic location.

Any other country wouldn't given a crap about Hawaiian culture at all and wold have simply quashed any talk of a "Reinstated Hawaiian Government". Worse yet, this kind of talk would be likely to get you executed for subversion.

Be lucky the islands are part of a country that allows Hawaii to operate as its own state largely with it's own laws.

One thing that always confused me is that if enough Hawaiians actually cared about these issues, they could get more politicians elected to the state and local positions to really make a difference. Instead, they stand as obstructionists who want to stop every change that is proposed to happen in any way they can.

Get some balls, get a candidate, and effing motivate your people, and stop effing complaining about shit that happened a lifetime ago that can't be changed from the outside.
