Chinese New Year is here, and the West side is ready to celebrate. At 6pm, Dennis Ryan will give a lecture at the Wo Hing Museum titled "China's First Coins." Aspiring archaeologists, anthropologists and general "old-stuff" enthusiasts should not miss this opportunity to see pieces that hail from as far back as the Shang Dynasty in 2200 BC. The following morning, head back to the Wo Hing at 10am to see qigong, acupuncture, and calligraphy demonstrations, and enjoy fresh spring rolls and noodles. The traditional Lion Dance, performed by Au's Shaolin Arts Society from Oahu, will begin at noon. (Let the lion bite a dollar of coins from your hand—a small price to pay for good luck and prosperity.) The Year of the Tiger is supposed to ring in big changes, upheaval and unpredictable surprises, so make sure to get off to a positive start by joining in the celebration. Call the Lahaina Restoration Foundation at 661-3262 for more info.
