Nail in the coffin…

"If approved, the current draft of the Maui Island Plan bears serious implications for the future of the development industry on Maui by imposing an additional layer of zoning through the proposed Urban and Rural Growth Boundaries…. [this] could prove to be the nail in the coffin for development…"

- Developer Everett Dowling, in written testimony provided January 29 to the state Water, Land and Ocean Resources Committee regarding HB2904, a bill that would severely limit county-level General Plan powers; the bill was passed by the House this week

Progress was a good thing once, but it's gone too far.
    March 05, 2010 | 12:14 PM

Ours is a society that has perfected its means yet neglected its meaning. You can't say humanity isn't progressing---why, with each war they make a new way to kill you. We are making enemies faster than we can kill them.We have decimated the peoples who knew how to live in balanced reality-awareness with earth-life systems, justifying our barbarism by referring to them as 'savages' and referring to ourselves as 'civilized'. Save the earth; kill yourself. Capitalism/colonialism is the vehicle of Zionism/Satanism/Mammonism, and that game has never had a balanced budget; it has always needed to rob Peter to pay Paul, and then demand exorbitant interest rates from both---rates impossible for the borrowers to pay back. Communism's premise is 'from each according to their ability & to each according to their need.' Capitalism's premise is 'from each according to their gullibility & to each according to their greed.' Does a significant portion of humanity evolve an adequate cerebral functioning in time to stop from destroying its biological beginnings in nature, i.e., in healthfully balanced soils, water, air, flora and fauna? And do people finally stop worshipping the goddamned money god, finally realizing that the money game is a ruse to suck the life and love and truth out of everything and everyone until there's no sweetness left anywhere? Keep your eyes on the weather...

    Planning is smart
    March 10, 2010 | 05:39 AM

Planning ahead and not playing catch up Is smart. Everyone who's successful knows this. Why would this be any different? Look anywhere in the US at places that have planned for growth and places that haven't. The differences are obvious. Planning is simply ensuring you don't repeat the mistakes of the past. It's not stifling development, just getting consensus ahead of time. That should actually help developers to know what's expected ahead of time. How could anyone argue against that?
