"LURF generally supports the intent and purpose of [the bill] however we must respectfully oppose the provisions which requires [sic] that private property owners maintain public areas…"
- From testimony provided March 12 to the state Senate by the Land Use Research Foundation of Hawaii (LURF) regarding HB1808, a bill that would require "landowners in shoreline access areas to ensure that public transit beach corridors are passable and free from human-induced, enhanced, or unmaintained vegetation…" LURF is a private "research and trade association" whose members include, among others, Alexander & Baldwin, Castle & Cooke, Dowling Co., Maui Land & Pineapple and Hawaiian Electric Company
