Lord of the Tweets...

The three major candidates vying to be the state's next governor all use Twitter. Of course, not all Twitter users are created equal. Here's how they stack up (as of this writing)...

DUKE AIONA
Tweets: 766 Following: 3,252 Followers: 3,276
Verdict: Interesting and/or noteworthy people tend to have a much higher followers-to-followees ratio.

NEIL ABERCROMBIE
Tweets: 902 Following: 5,540 Followers: 6,182
Verdict: Slightly better ratio, but still not great. And not many followers for a guy who held national office for close to two decades.

MUFI HANNEMANN
Tweets: 1,252 Following: 1,547 Followers: 618,872
Verdict: No that is not a typo. With more than 60 times as many followers as his two opponents combined, Hannemann is the Ashton Kutcher of Hawaii gubernatorial politics.

    Here is the explanation for Mufi's "popularity"

    For a while, Twitter had Mufi on their "Suggested User List" of people who every new member was encouraged to follow. Don't ask me why/how. Clearly, many of them took the suggestion...

    There were a few articles and blog posts about this at the time.
