October 21, 2010 | 10:30 AM The West side took its lumps this week when the County announced it won't close Front Street for Halloween. But not every event is floundering. Lahaina Plantation Days kicks off its second year (meaning it can now accurately be called "annual") with an array of diversions, including food booths featuring the grinds of Star Noodle, Aloha Mixed Plate, Sansei, RB Steak House, Hula Grill and Cool Cat Cafe to name a few, plus a beer and wine garden, historical displays, a farmers' market, horse rides and a fun zone for the keiki and entertainment from the likes of Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom (pictured), Na Palapalai, An Den and more. Also, you'll have a chance to both check out and contribute to the restoration of the iconic Pioneer Mill smokestack, by buying a commemorative brick. Lots of events claim to community-oriented and fun for the whole family; this one really is. 661-3162 or www.lahainarestoration.org
