December 08, 2010 | 03:13 PM If I was Los Lobos, you know what I'd do? I'd kick the Los Lonely Boys' asses. Why? Because their name is just too close for comfort when Los Lobos is a legendary American Chicano rock band, and the self-branded "Texican" Los Lonely Boys are responsible for that atrocious so-called song "Heaven." OK. Take a deep breath, wipe your mouth of the involuntary heaves from having to read the words "Los Lonely Boys," and let's just erase those unpleasantries entirely from our memories. Los Lobos—who've been around since the '70s—are cool. Like, really cool. Cool enough to have three Grammys under their belts, 19 studio albums and to be responsible for all the modern takes on Ritchie Valens's music for the 1987 film La Bamba. Oh, and their 2004 album The Ride features notables like Tom Waits and Elvis Costello. Oh, and… Well, I could go on and on about Steve Berlin (horns, keyboard), David Hidalgo (accordion, fiddle, guitar, requinto jarocho, vocals), Conrad Lozano (bass, guitarron, vocals), Louie Perez (drums, guitar, jarana huasteca, vocals) and Cesar Rosas (bajo sexto, guitar, vocals)—but you're better off hot-footing it to get tickets and seeing for yourself.
