Benefit For Shaggy Jenkins

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, upwards of 400,000 residential building fires are reported annually, tallying over $7 billion in losses. When fire claims the home of one of our own—as it recently did for beloved radio personality Shaggy Jenkins's 'ohana—we're reminded that this staggering, sad statistic is about homes. "A place of residence and refuge," by dictionary definition, "home" literally and figuratively houses our affections and safeguards all we hold dear. To lose it is an unfathomable pain—and a torment that dear ol' Shaggy (pictured) and his family are currently enduring. "My sister has four daughters and they lost everything," says Jenkins. "They're spending the holidays throwing out all the charred, smoked and otherwise damaged stuff that used to be a home to them." Fighting fire with fire, Maui's prog rock elite are uniting under the Hard Rock's roof to raise money to rebuild Shaggy's hometown hale in North Carolina. For the paltry price of a plate lunch and latte, you can help the cause and enjoy the megawatt lineup of Moth, Owaila, Kanekoa and Vince Esquire, presented by Q103, KAOI FM and Visionary Entertainment. Benefits Galore

Maybe hold a benefit and silent auction to give us a break from the same tiring acts playing these type of shows. Surprised we don't have the same panel of judges that we have for every judged contest...oh wait, this isn't a contest, it's a benefit show. It's got to the point that without seeing a flyer to any 'major' events, most of us can guess with pin-point accuracy, what bands will be playing. Once again, no surprises here. Moth, Maui's own 3-piece band - a guitarist, a drummer, and their light.

    Hey Braniac!

Maybe next time you could help find bands / musicians that would play for free, promote for free, offer silent auction items, donate recording studio time, donate gear and spend weeks spreading the word? The bands on the bill understand charity and helping out the community. Let us know which, "none of the same" bands you'd get to agree to it and that would actually draw a crowd.

Order of The White Rose, The Throwdowns, Arise, MJX, Gomega etc. are also missing from the bill. They all would have been a great addition to the line-up. I fear that you are also "sick" of those bands donating time and helping out the community.

So Mr. Rick Vickers, give us the list of who you'd rather see.
Don't forget the "for free" and "actually draw a crowd" requirement.
    Have a nice day

What a great philosophy! Let's not help anyone outside our insulated borders. In fact, why not take it a step further: why help anyone you don't know personally? Or actually screw it: why help anyone but yourself?

You do know this is a private benefit and not a mandatory tax, right? And that given your rotten attitude, it's doubtful anyone'd want you to show up anyway.

    Stay home, dipshit

We (White Rose) had two shows on Oahu on the weekend of the show, that's one reason we didn't play, besides not being asked. I would've been glad to play the show, Shaggy was an early supporter of our band when we first started out. Even if I disagree with many of the things he has said, I still would've been glad to help out if I was asked. I hope everyone had a good time.
