My crazy cool activist friends (currently fighting sexism/illiteracy/hunger/centipedes-on-steroids in countries with more vowels than I'm comfortable pronouncing) are fond of extrapolating on the value of education. "Education," they say in drumbeat cadences, "Education is whe-re it all sta-arts. You have got to edu-cate, yourself!" With that masterly chanted, allow me the pleasure of introducing the UH Cancer Center's panel, "New Frontiers: Unraveling Cancer in Hawaii." Experts and survivors will discuss prevention and care, including leading research on the role of genetics, nutrition and other factors. There'll also be a Q&A session regarding the mysteries of cancer and the search for a cure (or cures). (They'll probably use words with more consonants than I'm comfortable pronouncing.) And breakfast will be served, since you can't go educating yourself on an empty stomach. 564-5916, 441-7710.
