Jessica Rabbitt And the Propers and MOTH

March 23, 2011 | 04:09 PM Anthropomorphism is a no-no these days. Sure, it can be fun in its literary usage, but scientists argue that applying human characteristics to animals degrades our objectivity in ethology. But what about reverse-anthropomorphism? In the same way we can't help but apply our human dispositions to flora, fauna and inanimate objects (e.g. Pet Rocks and the weather), we in turn want to embody elemental and animal attributes ourselves. Or at least, animal names. Case in point: some of our favorite Maui musicians. This Friday (March 25), hop over to Three's Bar & Grill to see Rabbitt and The Propers (featuring the one and only Wolf on bass), plus special guests. They're playing a benefit for our stricken homies in Japan and all donations collected at the door and via the silent auction will benefit the Red Cross. (879-3133; threescateringmaui.com) And on Saturday (March 26), the men of MOTH turn their ommatidium to Casanova for what's sure to be a huge spectacle worth buzzing Upcountry to see.
