Orchid Ball Fundraiser

April 06, 2011 | 03:42 PM "In my examination of Orchids, hardly any fact has struck me so much as [their] endless diversities of structure," wrote Charles Darwin in his 1877 treatise The Various Contrivances By Which Orchids Are Fertilised By Insects. Indeed, orchids—not unlike kids—are each utterly, beautifully unique. (And in certain circumstances, admittedly, totally frustrating.) So what better way to exalt the education of our isle's keiki than with the 3rd Annual Orchid Ball fundraiser? Benefiting the financial aid and education programs of Kihei's Montessori Hale O Keiki, this gala event's piece de resistance is the "Floral Fantasy" wonderland created by some of Maui's best floral designers (with arrangements to be auctioned off, among other items like fine jewelry and travel packages). Add gourmet grinds by Executive Chef Roger Stettler, cocktails (like the Lemon Blossom martini) by Ocean Vodka and funky jazz by SLAM featuring David Choy and you've got the makings of a blossoming good time.
