President Barack Obama put a spotlight on national health care and Hawaii's state health care plan is standing in that light, but there are still a lot of individuals falling through the cracks. Which means this unique health event may help you: the Lahaina Wellness Fair will be held at the corner of Prison and Front Streets this Sunday from 10am to 2pm.

Lahainatown Action Committee, the Lions Club of Maui, We-A Hui, Aloha Health plan and the Maui Board of Economic Development hui'd up to bring this health education to all walks of life. The agencies there to assist you (with no questions asked) include Project Vision Hawaii (retinal examinations), Hawaii COPD Coalition (Spirometry), Hepatitis Support Network (Hepatitis C Screening), National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii (take-home kidney function test), 'Ohana Health Plan (glucose testing and medication management), Caregivers Foundation of America (counseling and direct service for care-givers), the Queen's Women's Center (women's cancer information and referral), and the American Lung Association (smoking cessation).

Attendees can also learn more about medications, Native Hawaiian approaches to health and family care-giving assistance. For more information, email annie@projectvisionhawaii.com.
