As the days get longer over Haleakala, that means it’s time for happy hour at Hali`imaile General Store. The restaurant launched their first happy hour last year, and while they put it on hiatus for the busy winter, it’s now back–Monday through Friday, from 2:30pm to 5pm. Sit indoor or outdoors while you take in the ambiance of one of Upcountry’s most iconic restaurants and order from their happy hour cocktail and brand new bar menu.
Hali`imaile General Store will have $6 wines by the glass, $8 martinis, $5 well cocktails and $4 Maui Brew Company beers. Then there are $8 cocktails made with Pau Vodka that’s actually distilled right across the street at Hali`imaile Distilling Co. If you wanted to tie in a visit to the distillery, they have daily tours. I’ve walked over or booked them on Haliimailedistilling.com.
Of course, happy hour wouldn’t be complete without supping up on some of the chic pupus that HGS has waiting for you. They have an antipasto plate for $14 that’s brimming with meats and cheeses, olives, nuts, pickles, pineapple mustard, truffle honey and crostini. Their selection of small plates for just $10 includes shrimp cocktail, ahi tartare and smoked salmon tacos. Praying for crab fonduta? Yes, I was, too. It’s there on the flatbreads menu along with tandoori lamb, mixed mushroom and grilled vegetable topping options all for $10 each.
There’s even a $9 crostini dish selection that changes along with the whimsy of the chef. Look for toppings like their Caprese of fresh pulled mozzarella, oven-dried tomato slice, basil pesto aioli and micro arugula; Prime Rib in Au Jus with miso mustard, cucumber kim chee, scallions; White Bean with rosemary aioli, white bean puree, micro greens; Blue Cheese and local honey aioli, asian pear, and gorgonzola; Smashed Avocado Lime, pickled jalapeños, roasted corn, evoo; Caramelized Onion, bacon, blue cheese, chives, or Brie and Grape with sweet pea guacamole. The even have a triple threat spicy pimento cheese dip for $8 that features diced pimentos, pickled jalapeños, mayo, dill and crostini points.
