Food & DrinkMay 15, 2013 | 01:04 PMby Jen RussoBeer drinking has become a refined tasting affair with the growing popularity of small batch craft brews. Thanks in part to Maui's own passionate indie-crafters at Maui Brewing Company, American Craft Beer Week has been a boon of events, but none bigger than the Maui Brewers Festival that takes place this Saturday at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC), which will help raise funds for programs at the MACC.

Food & DrinkMarch 20, 2013 | 09:08 AMby Jen RussoI baked my first cookie when I was 10. By the time I was in high school I was making choux pastry and eclairs just for shits and giggles while my sisters and I stayed up late watching whatever came on the 12 TV channels that were available back then. I've been making my grandmother's banana bread so long it's second nature. To me, baking has been comfort, entertainment and wonder. I'm still amazed at the chemistry of combinations that fulfill crust and crumb of all my favorite recipes.

Food & DrinkMarch 13, 2013 | 11:16 AMby Jen RussoFrom the moment you step foot into the Grand Wailea's Humuhumunukunukuapua'a, you're in for an exotic treat. Built like a Hollywood set, the restaurant is a series of small dining rooms connected by hallways that stretch over a fish-filled lagoon. All of it is thatched hut-style. Carved tikis greet you at the door and palm trees surround the property. Servers wear mu'u mu'u and tropical prints, and the menu itself is a carved and woven work of art.

Food & DrinkFebruary 27, 2013 | 01:49 PMby Jen RussoThere's a new pizza restaurant in Wailea, located at 100 Wailea Ike Drive. If you think that address sounds familiar, it's because that spot used to be Matteo's Pizza. They operated there for about six years before closing last April. But if you think Manoli's is just picking up where Matteo's left off, you're wrong.

There's ephemeral love that makes the heart soar, passions that our hearts beat and senses that gorge the heart. In honor of all the things that nourish heart health, the American Heart Association is teaming up with Island Girl Pin-Ups for a Go Red Garden Party fundraising fun event this Saturday that will feature art, beauty, gourmet food, farm fresh drinks and "Go Red" activities on the gorgeous Sugarman Estate in Makena from 11am to 3pm.

Food & DrinkJanuary 30, 2013 | 11:21 AMby Jen RussoMaui Brewing Co.'s latest seasonal release craft brew known as Aloha B'ak'tun may appear difficult to pronounce but it sure goes down easy. The imperial Belgian stout's dark and spicy makeup comes from being brewed with Big Island chocolate and locally sourced chipotle peppers and cinnamon. Its name comes from the Mayan language and is a play on the release date, which coincided with predictions of the end of the world in December.
