Let us not confuse Burning Man with Source February 25, 2010 | 09:09 PM
I thought it was a good article and it sounds like Source was a good time. With all the reference to Burning Man I would have thought you would have mentioned Ka Pilina even once. You really should experience Rebirth, we are hoping to hold it in late June this year, hopefully more details will come out about it real soon. Rebirth has had from 350-650 participants at each of the 3 festivals, and our ticket price has fluctuated from $20-$50. Ben was at the last one in 2008, ask him. For all the info you need go to www.kapilina.org
And what are the hard numbers for Source? the ticket price was $175 right? How many participants/ticket buyers were there? What kind of budget was there? What kind of insurance did they get, or did the campground cover that? Were permits from the Health Department needed for the food, and how hard was that to get?
Sounds like a lot of people are having fun at Source, that's great, more power to them. There are a lot of other Burning Man-related private groups (or Themecamps) here in Hawaii that cater to a certain community. But if it is the all-inclusive, authentic Burning Man experience (minus the dust) in Hawaii you want, then it is Ka Pilina you are looking for.
You know we have a chapter on Maui? It is headed by Amanda Wilson, but they haven't been active (all Source, no Ka Pilina). We really want to at least get a monthly meet-n-greet together. What KP needs on Maui is effective leadership, maybe then will you get a more realistic Burning Man experience on Maui.
