OIl has been all our backbone...lessons from "confessions of an May 17, 2010 | 12:38 PM
As an activist for the last ten years, nothing spelled out the planned greed our US Goverment and its corporations has lambasted the people of the world with quite like John Perkins book, "Confessions of an Economic Hitman". It is a startling tale that weaves us way back to how our greed was started and what it has brought onto us.
Sadly this spill will do intense damage on scales that we are not even aware of yet, however it can also catalyze us into creating a new dream where we respect the balance of nature and all things, including business to pull back our damaging ways.
I completely support Andrew's push to PULL OUT your money in oil stocks. Too often these stocks are hidden behind the fancy words of "mutual fund" or other financial products. It is time to become aware of our role in the oil economy.
Although we were not directly responsible for the negligence of not safeguarding the oil platform, we are indirectly responsible for the lack of commentary, awareness, and call to action on behalf of the very wealthy corp's and families that no doubt just got their vacation home on the gulf rendered worthless if the beach ends up looking like the inside of an oil can.
In reading the hitman book there are definitely those responsible for this mess, the wealthy families who profit, the corporations and its stockholders who profit...and we the Americans who drive around getting to where we need to go on the slick road of oil. Too bad spills of this magnitude couldn't happen on highways because then we'd really have to stop driving.
PLEASE TAKE YOUR MONEY AND INVEST IN RENEWABLE ENERGY AND ENERGY EFFIECIENCY...it's the only stock that can have real payoff for generations to come!
