Not a single tax dollar should pay for the MVB. Ever. February 01, 2011 | 11:20 AM
If tourism is what Maui depends on, then the hotels should pay for their own advertising. There is no reason we should give them more money, unaudited, so they can then pay some TV station in Nebraska to run ads, telling them to vacation in Maui. This is corporate socialism at its worst: giving tax dollars to the vacation bureau. They also don't even pay taxes. Most of the hotels appeal their taxes and don't pay their share. I'm almost 100% sure that "let's take a step back..." is Mike White's office, or someone who works for the MVB. We should not use tax dollars to pay for their salaries. The hotels should. They use State and County taxes and pay themselves high salaries on our tax dollars.
Yeah, let's move forward, without the MVB
