Aloha Arnie,

My apologies if this is not clear in the story, but it's my understanding that those disputing how local a Hawaiian Grammy-winning artist is (or should be) have directed their ire at Tia Carrere and Daniel Ho, not necessarily George Kahumoku Jr. and the artists on his compilation albums. Whether it's fair to assess the degree of someone's localness at all (and by what measure?) is a question I grapple with a lot.

Bottom line: The Hawaiian music community at large not engage the electorate and a golden opportunity was squandered.
