The EAST MAUI Animal Refuge, founded in 1977, is located in...Haiku. A google search for Haiku East Maui turns up 20,000 hits. The fact is, the directional orientations on Maui are based on where people live. If Wailuku and Kahului are Central Maui, then pretty much everything East of Paia is East Maui. Seems like semantics to me--definitely not a haole/Native thing. But on here, I guess everything turns into a haole/Native thing...
