HATES ENTERTAINMENT
Come clean Ynez [Tongson]! Is the ice cream made in Maui, Hawai'i or New York City (Take Five, Jan. 17, 2008)? And are the prices all the same or are some locations more expensive than others? Otherwise tell your "Take Five" readers that your column is an advertisement.

The Editor responds: Take Five is a light-hearted short feature we recently started running. It's just blurbs on five local restaurants. Yes, it was positive, talking about places we deem to be good, but that hardly makes it "advertising." And frankly, Ynez's topic was simply places to get good ice cream. Where the ice cream was made or how much it was wasn't relevant to her story.
I always thought that light-hearted features were written to inform readers… your audience. I never thought of these article as entertainment. Perhaps price, where it was made and whether the ingredients were organic, fresh, etc. wasn't relevant to her, but did she think beyond her needs. Even poets think about their audience.
I'll not be recommending your paper as a source of information.

I think all this stuff is a bunch of crap!!! All this Eastside, Westside, Southside, Northside, Wai side crap has to STOP and all this gang-banging, street-fighting and mobbing shit has to stop! Crips and Bloods here is just something to call yourselves when you try to block everything in life out! Because you're scared.
Of what? I don't really know, it could be anything but you know what... all these young teenagers in high school and middle school saying or repping red and/or blue… Brah, you guys gotta stop. Fighting isn't the answer to anything but the outcome of fighting is the one that'll lead you the wrong way!
You guys try and go to the Mainland. Try telling those people that you rep red or you rep blue… You guys would probably get a cap up your ass or mobbed or something. What does everyone else know these islands as? The Island of "Aloha"—not the rock that everyone hates each other on!!! This might not make everybody change their mind about it but I know (sadly) at least one person will take this into their heart and actually change and rearrange themselves. Aloha.

It's not Kihei vs. Upcountry—it's idiots vs. idiots! It's unbelievable that you actually got to put this rubbish in Maui Time. It completely discredits this paper.
The only reason you claim one region or race over another is to create the illusion that you are part of a larger group and actually have some sort of power or meaning. You don't! You really don't. You only have the power to annoy.
It's called "group think" or "collectivism." The real issue is how intelligent people should deal with fools that can't comprehend basic human concepts and think more like animals. I suggest for starters you don't reproduce.
