Remove ImagesPicks of the Week Emil Richards Saturday, 6 p.m. at Whaler’s Village June 30, 2005 [MUSIC] Emil Richards is out of control. Born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1932, he learned to play the xylophone at a mere 6 years old. Hello, precocious! He hasn't stopped with the music since. He's played, recorded, toured, composed, taught and conducted for over 60 years now. According to his biography on www.emilrichards.com, Richards has "recorded over 1350 film scores and counts over 650 artists that he has recorded and performed with." Wow, like, all at once? I looked through his list of artists—not only is it impressive in quantity, but in quality as well. The list includes The Beach Boys, Nat King Cole, Blondie, Judy Garland, Bjork and The Supremes, and that's not even the tip of the iceberg. The list of movies and shows Richards has worked on is even more gargantuan and includes all kinds of famous flicks and shows from the 1960s on through to the present. The more recent including Chicago, Spiderman and X-Men. Lucky for us, he seems to like our island quite a bit, as he visits quite often. If you miss him this weekend, check for sit-ins with the jazz band at Pacific'O in Lahaina on Friday and Saturday nights. [HEIDI KING] |
