Remove Images Musical Score What’s going on at the Candlelight Cafe between screenings by By Samantha Campos December 22, 2005 If you're going to see any of the movies at this year's FirstLight Film Festival, you might as well go for the whole experience. That means, take your time! Get to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center early, buy your tickets, then go hang out in the Candlelight Cafe just outside of the Castle Theater. Grab a glass of wine or tea, a plate of food from whoever's catering that night and enjoy the lineup of live music outdoors. Thursday, Dec. 22: DJ Michael Fong—will be spinning country music to get you in the mood for notorious "gay cowboy" flick Brokeback Mountain. Friday, Dec.23: Gene Argel Trio—with Argel on keys and vocals, Michael Buono on drums and Bob Harrison on bass for soothing and fabulous, light jazz. (No films or live music Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 24-25.) Monday, Dec. 26: Gene Argel and Makana Argel—doing a tribute to Cole Porter with lively pop, swing and jazz, before the rambunctious musical The Producers. Tuesday, Dec. 27: Dr. Nat and Zack—Latin jazz in the CandleLight Cafe; while inside the Castle Theater, Debra Lynn sings an Italian aria accompanied by pianist Anne Durham before the romantic costume drama Casanova. Wednesday, Dec. 28: Bradda Francis—the winner of Paniolo Album of the Year 2002 and 2005 sings sweet island sounds in the Candlelight Cafe before the cultural/historical drama The New World. Inside the Castle Theater, new age master pianist "Nadama" performs on stage before romantic dramedy Shopgirl at 5 p.m., as well as The New World at 7:30. Throughout the Festival the MACC's official pianist Bruce Guerin (see p. 23) will be in the Castle Theater and Roberto & Friends will be out on the Amphitheater lawn juggling with a trio of jugglers.
