[WORLD MUSIC] Jai Uttal is a long-time student of Indian music and kirtan, or devotional chanting. But he's also performed in various reggae, R&B and punk bands. Uttal and his band the Pagan Love Orchestra gained global recognition with their albums Footprints and Monkey in the early '90s. His concerts started a trend in dance music that "united the temple and the nightclub, the sacred and the worldly." His latest album, Mondo Rama, combined Brazilian music with Hebrew prayers, Appalachian blues, Beatles-esque psychedelics and Indian chanting. Naturally, it was nominated in 2002 for a Grammy as "Best New Age Album." Plus, yoga practitioners just adore him! Jai Uttal will be accompanied this weekend by Daniel Paul, as well as the Kirtan Choir and Bhakti dancer Nubia Teixeira on Sunday. $20.
