In and amidst the legions of soldiers, sailors and marines stationed here, USO (United Service Organizations) entertainers put on shows periodically. In conjunction with a traveling Smithsonian Institution poster exhibition "Produce for Victory: Posters on the American Home Front 1941-1945" that runs at the Wailuku Library through Oct. 20, tonight the Baldwin Theater Guild will showcase song and dance routines that were popular at USO shows during the war. In addition, Lisa Owen's "Moonglow" Swing Band performs live music and local author Gail Ainsworth will talk about what Word War II USOs were like on Maui. The event is free, and there will be refreshments. For more information, call the library at 243-5766. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO] |
