For a Mainland couple that obviously feels comfortable around money, you sure didn't know how to tip. But you're hardly alone in this regard. Many of our overly friendly visitors that like to come to our island paradise don't tip correctly when they go out to eat. I don't know how you do things elsewhere but here in Hawai`i we depend on our tips to make a living and pay our bills. So every time you leave us less than 10 percent you're costing us money. How about reading a book before you return so you can learn about our customs? If you don't here's a handy, easy tip: the next time you decide to go out for a nice meal and it comes time to pay the check, make sure that you leave your server a 15 to 20 percent gratuity.
