Remove ImagesPicks of the Week New York Female Seeks Ex-Monk Friday (Apr 27) at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center April 26, 2007 [FILM] On Monday, my friend who works at the Kahului Airport called to tell me that the Dalai Lama had arrived on Maui. She said she'd never seen anything like it before—legions of serious-looking guys in suits, and a huge security convoy. Not surprising, considering the Dalai Lama has been living in exile for decades. Dreaming Lhasa is a film about others who are exiled from the Dalai Lama's home land of Tibet. For the record, it's not a documentary—the movie's fiction, but it's gotten great reviews. The basic plot concerns a Tibetan filmmaker from New York who goes to Dharamsala (the Dalai Lama's exile headquarters in India) to film a documentary. She falls in love with an ex-monk and they go on a mission to fulfill his dying mother's last request. Sounds like a good flick, though the convoy is not included. For tickets call 242-7469. [LB] |
