Overhaulin' Maui Style

Thursday, May 8 at 8 p.m. at Tiffany's, Wailuku

[EVENT/TELEVISION] In September, Derek Pace and his team from Maui's very own Certified Sounds (Alvin Fernandez, Brad Kim, Joshua Espinueva and–Mr. Restless Native himself–Jesse Begley) hopped a big jet plane over to California to shoot "Wake-Up Call," season five's third episode of TLC's popular show Overhaulin', which stars the legendary Chip Foose. Not to embarrass the folks at Certified Sounds or anything, but when it comes to stereo installation and custom fabrication, they tend to be legendary themselves. Besides being the home to Hawai`i's only MECP Certified Master Installer, over the years they've won a bunch of car-show competitions and their work has been featured in several national industry magazines. While in California, they pimped out a 1963 Chevy Nova for a young man in the process of restoring it with his father, who suddenly passed away in an accident. The end result? Tune in and see for yourself this Thursday at 8 p.m. on TLC. Better yet, party and talk story with the crew as they watch the episode at Tiffany's in Wailuku. Seabury Hall Craft Fair

Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Seabury Hall, Makawao

[EVENT] The title kind of says it all. I've been going to the Seabury Hall Craft Fair religiously for over 20 years. Every year it's gotten bigger and better. This year it will have all of the good stuff that the community has come to expect: fantastic food, silent auction, rummage sale, fresh cut flowers, art, produce, crafters and tons of fun games and activities–can you say waterslide and pony rides? Plus, the Seabury Hall campus is just plain gorgeous and the craft fair is an excellent way to spend a Maui spring day with the family. I'm going this year with my mom and daughter. My husband and son will stay home, not by choice, but just because they're stinky boys. I just hope nobody tells them about the great Classic Car Show that they'll miss out on, or the Kawasaki Golf Shootout. Admission: $3 for adults. Kids 12 and under free. 80's Café

Saturday, May 10at 9 p.m. at Giovanni's, Ka`anapali

[EVENT] Okay, so the 1980's had some really embarrassing fashions, but it also brought us Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run," Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Justin Timberlake. I can totally look past shoulder pads and geometric neon shirts—hell I'll even look past Lindsey Lohan—if we can keep the good stuff from the '80s. This Saturday, Elements Entertainment is bringing us the 80's Café, which is full of 80's music courtesy of DJs Boomshot, JP and Del Sol. There will be prizes for best '80s garb so go buy some Aquanet and flip those bangs. For more info email kenui_e2@yahoo.com.

The Boz Man

Monday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m.at Castle Theater, MACC, Kahului

[MUSIC] What's with all this amazing music coming out of the Maui Arts & Cultural Center over the past few months? On Monday, the talented Boz Scaggs will take the stage. There's not much I can say about Scaggs except that I grew up listening to his music, my parents are big fans and we've loved each and every one of his albums, especially Middle Man and Slow Dancer. Silk Degrees was pretty awesome, too. And I can't forget about his latest release Fade into the Light. Yeah, they're pretty much all fantastic. Tickets: $85, $75, $65, $55. Blindsight

Wednesday, May 14 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Castle Theater, MACC, Kahului

[FILM] While researching this film, I got all choked up and shed a few tears while watching the trailer. Yes, the trailer. See, Blindsight is an award-winning documentary about a group of young Tibetans who climb Mt. Everest under the leadership of world-renowned climber Erik Weihenmayer. The catch? Both the group of teenagers and Weinhenmayer are blind. That's right—they can't see, even though 20 percent of those with sight who attempt to climb Everest die. This film has gotten amazing reviews and is supposed to change the way you think about life. I believe it. Tickets: $12. Ticket specials are available online.
