Remove ImagesPicks of the Week Art Exhibit: Wayne Zebzda & Deybra Fair July 16, 2009 One for the road Opens Saturday (Jul. 18), 11am, Schaefer International Gallery, MACC A few months back some friends of mine were walking home from an undisclosed karaoke facility. Something caught the eye of one of these drunken mic slingers, whom shall here be known as CharTreuse. It was a downed crosswalk sign, still attached to its post. "This is highly illegal,ó said one of the more cautious members of the party, who was visiting from the Mainland - Washington, DC to be specific. The whereabouts of the sign are still unknown to this day, but the appeal of roadside relics carries on in our hearts. Those who have read On the Road or any other Kerouac novel can probably attribute at least a few reckless acts to their having recently read Kerouac. This is part of the appeal of Kauai artist Wayne Zebzda's "Road Trip,ó an assembly of discarded road signs, reflective bumps and other highway guides. His exhibit coincides with Deybra Fair's "Fair Towers,ó a collection of towering art pieces made from found items; colorful ones like Dr. Seuss book covers. |
