Emancipate yourself from mental slavery by celebrating Bob Marley's birthday. No gifts please, as the well-loved king of reggae is deceased, and probably wouldn't have appreciated material offerings anyway, unless they were from that secret garden of yours deep in the cane field. PACT is holding a celebration at Iao Theater, featuring a screening of Bob Marley and the Wailers' 1979 Santa Barbara Concert documentary. The event will be hosted by Marty Dread, "Maui's Reggae Ambassador," who will perform some songs. Also, appropriately enough, Marty was named after Martin Luther King Jr., and this is Black History Month. Marty Dread always stirs up plenty of good vibes and is sure to make this a cool, successful evening. Advance tickets are available at Request Music and Trade Winds Deli.
