This week, the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), an international consortium whose member list includes Monsanto and Dow Chemical, named House Speaker Calvin Say and state Rep. Clift Tsuji "Legislators of the Year."  In a BIO release, Fred Perlack, president of the Hawaii Crop Improvement Association—also backed by Monsanto and Dow—praised Say and Tsuji as "vocal proponents of biotechnology," who "for the good of the state...have worked effectively and tirelessly to minimize policies that would otherwise negatively impact this vital industry."
