Delivery Hawaii Wants Your Stuff
August 16, 2012
Ken Dawson is streamlining the shipping industry in Hawaii, offering a unique way to keep your products moving throughout the state. His new business, called Delivery Hawaii, offers a services ranging from warehousing your inventory to delivering it to your clients.
"Prior to moving to Hawaii, we are formers owners of a delivery service in Chicago," says Dawson. "We are here in Hawaii now long enough to know how costly it is to ship inter-island. So what we did was create a new system that helps businesses to reduce transportation costs."
Here's how it works: you ship your products to their warehouses (they have facilities in Hilo, Kona, Maui, Oahu and Kauai). They track your inventory in their system, and when you have an order from a neighbor island client, you send Delivery Hawaii the order. They fill the order the same day you have placed it.
Delivery Hawaii uses a complex online tracking system that lets you know your inventory by logging into their system keeping the guess-work out of how much product you have on the island at any given moment.
"Our inventory management system provides customers with inventory information in real time," says Dawson. "If you send us an order at 9am, for example, we fill the order by 10am. Now, at 10:05am, you can log into our site, and see what is left in stock after that order was just filled a few minutes ago."
Dawson says he's been in the shipping industry for 25 years. His specialty was running same-day shipping service for several big name companies. Dawson acquired Deliver Hawaii in 2006 with his wife Monica, and they began developing the idea of a same-day shipping delivery service for the islands. Deliver Hawaii was founded in 1991 as a shipping provider for mainland and local companies. The Dawsons also own and operate Maui Parcel Service.
"Imagine a specialty foods maker on the Big Island having the option to place their products in stores on Maui, Kauai and Oahu all on the same day their customers request them," says Ken. "It's a win-win for everyone."
