There’s hula, beautiful beaches and that lovely concoction of light and dark rum and pineapple juice. Right? Not so fast says managing partner Michel Roy and bartender Pepe Nuno of Mai Tai Lounge in Lahaina. A true mai tai has a number of ingredients—light rum, dark rum, orange curacao liquor (made on Oahu by the Portugese, btw) and orgeat syrup but no pineapple juice. It’s this attention to detail and discerning MauiTime readers that have placed them at the top of the mai tai heap. Head over to the West side and give our regards to Pepe.
