Here’s a rundown on the festival’s big events:



Friday, May 13:

 Opening Ceremony to welcome carvers and bless the “Pacific Voyagers, Canoes” exhibit at the MACC, 5 p.m. Immediately following is the gallery opening at 5:30 p.m, and Pacific Connections Series musical performance ofETe Vaka at 7:30 p.m. in Castle Theater.



Saturday, May 14:

 Ceremony to initiate the first cuts on logs is at 8:30 a.m. at Kamehameha Iki Park in Lahaina. Rough carving runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.



Saturday, May 14-Tuesday, May 17:

 The award-winning Cook Islands Dancers, a 12-member troupe of Rarotonga’s best dancers and musicians will perform nightly at the Aloha Pavillion of The Westin Maui Resort & Spa in Ka’anapali, 6: 30 p.m. to 8 p.m.



Wednesday, May 18:

 Canoe carving moves to Banyan Tree Park (Front Street and Lahaina Harbor), 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. [JEN RUSSO]
