[HAWAIIAN MUSIC] In 1997, Kehau Tamure and Kuana Torres joined Akoni Malacas in a group called Akoni & the Palapalai Patch. A year later, Malacas left the group and Keao Costa came aboard, forming the award-winning trio known today as Na Palapalai. All three members honed their natural talent with backyard training from friends, family and kupuna, to release their first album of falsetto-style Hawaiian classics, Makani ‘Olu ‘olu in 2002. Their debut was a success and warranted five Na Hoku Hanohano awards. And just last year, at the 2005 Na Hoku Awards, Na Palapalai took home Best Group of the Year and Hawaiian Album of the Year for their second album, Ke ‘Ala Beauty. Tickets: $28. Call 242-7469.
