Why Shopping Is Good For You
Friday at Macy’s, Queen Ka’ahumanu Center
June 15, 2006
[RETAIL THERAPY/CHARITY EVENT] There is something very invigorating about shopping. It’s that thrill of finding something you want. There it is, a baseball cap that you haven’t seen anyone else wearing yet and it’s your favorite color, too! Or, those wedge heels with the lace up your leg that you’ve been pining over in magazines. No matter what the product, there’s a certain rush in finding it. Then, like a panther on the prowl, you slyly approach. Circling the item as you prepare to pounce. Gotcha! After checking price and size, you try it on, love it and carry it around happily while you maintain the search… for more stuff. That feeling of being in control is intoxicating. It’s completely up to you what you buy and the item doesn’t say, “I’m not interested in you being my purchaser.” The item doesn’t have a choice. I love a good power trip. I also love having new additions to my wardrobe. So, when I found out Macy’s was having a “Community Shopping Day,” where the proceeds go to local non-profit organizations like the Humane Society, I was stoked. It’s just the excuse I need to go find a new swimsuit. It’s for charity after all. Tickets are only $10 to get you discounts storewide, access to product samples, a chance to win $500, live entertainment throughout the day, and piece of mind knowing you’re doing a good deed.
