[OPERA] Okay, so everything I know about the opera, I learned from the movies. You probably don’t know much more, because this weekend is the first time ever that a full grand opera is coming to Maui. What I do know is that the whole opera thing seems really cool; you get to wear fancy clothes and mingle, you get to be all classy, and weird things like murders, political back-stabbings and illicit affairs tend to happen in the balcony seats. How exciting is that? Madama Butterfly—the opera that’s coming here—is about a geisha who marries a U.S. Navy guy and the love and (you know it’s gotta happen) betrayal that goes along with it. The sets and costumes are supposed to be unbelievable. They’re designed by world-renowned artist Jun Kaneko. The composer for Madama Butterfly is Giacomo Puccini. Seriously, you don’t want to miss this opportunity. Leave your stiletto blades, hanky panky and coded messages at the door. Tickets: $125, $75, $55, $30, $10. For more info call 242-7469. [LB]
