Are you into acupuncture needles or do you need a lollipop after a visit to the doctor? Did you know that sea cucumber is an aphrodisiac or did you just scream when you squished one with your foot at Launiupoko? Even if you aren’t prepared to dive headfirst into those particular Chinese customs, you can still enjoy some of Shanghai’s finest (and strangest) entertainment. The New Shanghai Circus is once again visiting Maui, bringing with it unicycles, spinning plates balanced on bamboo, human pyramids, swinging ropes, towers of chairs and, of course, skillful and fearless contortionists who are guaranteed to leap over, through and inside all of the above objects, and even each other. All this will be accompanied by rousing music and dazzling special effects. Think of it as going to see a modern dance show, only infinitely more exciting and exotic.
