Here's something I don't quite fully understand as of late. We're in a Recession. Why is it we have morons like the "Christian Right" and the "Environmental Right" and the "Anti-Drug Right" constantly torpedoing any attempts to get people jobs and supplement the Tax Revenue Stream with protests and lawsuits and whatnot? Shouldn't we be throwing some caution to the wind and be passing laws to actually help the economy? Look at Marijuana. Decriminalizing Weed would free up scads of tax dollars from Law Enforcement that could be used elsewhere (Like maybe catching speeders or Handicap Parking Violators?). Regulation via taxes and strict production methods (like in the manufacture of Tobacco and Alcoholic products) plus the commercialization of Marijuana could collapse the illegal drug trade, reduce crime, and bottom out any black market on the drug. Plus look at the potential Environmental Impact it does when you make planting weed in protected woodlands look like a lose-lose proposition when you got fields of this stuff growing on former cane and pineapple lands. Look at the whole Superferry debacle. Each side pretty much destroyed itself over every little thing. Oahu has a love/hate relationship with Kauai and Maui, the potential revenue possibilities have been axed if it was given the chance to develop, etc. Even the Environmentalists have to be blamed for sending 200+ people out of work and eliminating a potential tax revenue steam when Hawaii really needed it and directly contributing to an ever increasing carbon footprint and monetary cost when goods need to be shipped elsewhere via plane and boat. You can only buy so much on Maui before you have to look elsewhere to get them. Honolulu via Superferry would've been much more better than resorting to getting items shipped and paying up the ass for the shipping via air when an overnight trip to Oahu would've solved the problem easily. As for Gay-Lesbian Marriages/Civil Unions? Lost revenue from hotel stays, car rentals, wedding planners, tourist activities, flying in of relatives, venue rentals, music setups, the jobs created.....gee, some churches are hurting for donations for Christ sakes!! Ignore where the "blood money" came from and say a few "Hail Marys" to compensate. Anonymous does not forgive |
