Johann teaches and hooks young readers at the same time...

We live in the DC suburbs of Northern Virginia...far from the wonders and culture of Hawai'i. My 7th grade daughter received Johann Sebastian Humphach as a gift and couldn't put it down. Except for the excerpts my daughter read to us, I haven't read the book yet, but I plan to. While she was reading it, my daughter kept saying, is it true whales do this and whales to that? Or, I didn't know that about Hawaii! So, I liked the fact that she was learning while she read it. But, she also remarked how cool and fun the dialogue and plot were and how she had never read anything like it. Natalies rarely reads a book beginning to end. So, Johann had to be special to keep her interested! Thanks and Mahalo!
