Lastly, wanted to add that many consumers ignore the fact that a palm oil plantation can last 25 years+ with trees that range from 5 to 9 meters tall. Many plantations have been planted on timbered land i.e. land that has been used for lumber export rather than simply for clearing palm plantation. The largest culprits of de-forestation remains the lumber industry who buys wood indiscriminately to manufacture furniture in China and Vietnam that is bought by both US and EC consumers without regard for its origins.
